We pulled into the parking lot a little before 5:00 pm.  The volunteers were already gathered and had made two long lines of empty boxes.  Our two trucks were filled with the food that Free the Need volunteers had collected throughout the week; food that would have otherwise ended up in landfill.  The food is brought to this local Klamath River center to be distributed to families in need.

The volunteers worked together like a well-oiled machine.  Vegetables, fruit, canned foods, bread, cheese, and milk, along with flowers, were put into the boxes.  After checking them to make sure the food looked evenly distributed, everyone lined up to receive boxes for their families and neighbors.  The whole operation was joyful, friendly and took less than an hour.

In addition to Klamath River, Free the Need delivers food to families in San Francisco.  The organization is all volunteer, so any cash donations received go 100% to food distribution.  Free the Need believes in an abundant universe.  Its volunteers are breaking the chain of poverty by distributing surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. If a family is freed of the need for food, they can put more energy into creating a better life. Free the Need believes that there is enough of what people need to go around, and that once people feel filled up, they have enough surplus to give to others.

I also believe in an abundant universe, and am honored to be a member of Free the Need’s board of directors.  I attended a planning meeting for 2018, and was impressed by the care with which plans and procedures for the new year were discussed.  Free the Need is launching a fund-drive to raise money to purchase an additional truck needed for food transportation.  They are also looking into a storage facility in San Francisco to support their growing work.  For more information, or if you would like to volunteer or make a gift of support, please visit their website at www.freetheneed.org/.

For laser cutting or drilling in PCB industry, only a few or more watt of UV laser is needed, without the kilowatt level of laser power. In consumer electronics, automotive industry or robotic manufacturing technology, the use of flexible PCB has become increasingly important. Because the UV laser processing system has flexible processing mode, high precision processing effect and flexible and controllable processing process, it has become the preferred choice for drilling and cutting of flexible circuit board and thin PCB laser. Nowadays, the long-life laser source equipped with the laser system is almost maintenance-free. In the production process, the laser level is level 1, and there is no need for other protection devices. LPKF laser system is equipped with a vacuum device, which will not cause harmful substances to be discharged. With its intuitive and easy-to-operate software control, laser technology is replacing traditional mechanical technology, saving the cost of special cutting tools. http://www.pcbindex.com/

Apple’s technological innovation has brought about tremendous opportunities for the PCB industry chain. There is great possibility that iPhone 8 will introduce the new technology of substrate like PCB in it, which will bring about a new round of revolution for the mainboard. Under the context when the product line is restructuring and the global PCB production capacity is moving to the east, the overall PCB industry chain is confronting new opportunities. In addition, the downstream PCB industry is experiencing a substitution of the new ones for the old ones and a raid switch of demand, we are confident that the automotive electronics will bring a new and promising future for the development of the PCB industry with Tesla acting as the model. It is suggested that more attention should be paid to the following domestic PCB enterprises with profound accumulation after years of development, Ellington, Goworld, Dongshan Precision. Automotive electronics: The trend of intellectualization is irresistible and the upstream PCB is meeting historic challenges Under the trend of electronization and intellectualization, automotives are undergoing a transformation of intellectualization, which is expected to take over the place of smart phones and become a new smart terminal. Compared with smart phones, automotives are expected to become another important driving force for such downstream PCB market as semi-conductor and passive components. Benefited from the upcoming good trend in the downstream market and favorable policy conditions, the domestication of the upstream is expected to stepping up. In terms of the semi-conductor, we recommend to pay more attention to Huatian Technology, Yizhao Innovation, Changdian Technology and Huacan Lighting and Electronics; in passive components, Fala Electronics, Aihua Group and Shunlu Electronics. Besides, we also suggest paying more attention to the field of automotive electronics, such as Sanhua Intellectual Control. http://www.pcbindex.com

A New PCB Experience in Troubleshooting There are several ways to find faults:

Measuring Voltage Method

First of all, it is necessary to confirm whether the voltage of each chip power pin is normal. Secondly, it is necessary to check whether the reference voltage is normal, and whether the working voltage of each point is normal. For example, when a silicon triode is turned on, the BE junction voltage is about 0.7V, while the CE junction voltage is about 0.3V or less. If the BE junction voltage of a transistor is greater than 0.7V (except for special transistors, such as Darlington transistors), it may be that the BE junction opens.

(2) Signal injection method

The signal source is added to the input terminal, and then the waveform of each point is measured back to see if it is normal to find the fault point. Sometimes we also use simpler methods, such as holding a tweezers in our hands to touch the input terminals at all levels to see if the output terminals react, which is often used in audio and video amplifier circuits (but it should be noted that the circuit with hot backplane or high voltage can not use this method, otherwise it may lead to electric shock). If there is no reaction at the first level and there is reaction at the second level, it means that the problem lies at the first level and should be checked.

(3) Other methods of finding fault points

Of course, there are many other ways to find fault points, such as watching, listening, smelling, touching and so on. "Look" is to see whether the components have obvious mechanical damage, such as rupture, blackening, deformation, etc.; "Listen" is to listen to whether the working sound is normal, such as something that should not be loud is ringing, where the noise is silent or abnormal, etc.; "Smell" is to check whether there is any odor, such as the smell of burning, the smell of capacitor electrolyte, etc., for an experienced electronic maintenance. Personnel are very sensitive to these odors; "touch" is to use their hands to test whether the temperature of the device is normal, such as too hot or too cold. Some power devices will get hot when they work. If they feel cool, it can be basically judged that they are not working. But if it's not supposed to be hot or it's too hot, that's not going to work. General power transistors, voltage regulator chips and so on, working below 70 degrees is absolutely no problem. What's the concept of 70 degrees? If you press your hand up, you can hold it for more than three seconds, which means that the temperature is about 70 degrees below. (Be careful to touch tentatively first, don't burn your hand.) http://www.pcbindex.com
